Juru Walk

Originally an Aboriginal tribe known as the Juru, which was one of many tribes of the Birri-gubba people, inhabited this region. They survived well on the abundance of marine and terrestrial resources.

Juru Walk is a walking trail developed in partnership with Burdekin Shire Council located at the southern end of Plantation Park. The path is called Juru Walk to recognize the spiritual connection of Aboriginals that live in the region. A bush tucker garden was planted alongside the path and features more than 30 species of plants. As you walk along the track, keep your eyes peeled for different types of wildlife.

Local primary schools participate in cultural events delivered by the Gudjuda Reference Group and Traditional Owners to increase awareness of Aboriginal cultural heritage.
