Burdekin Diorama

Burdekin Diorama 2025

Located near Home Hill's Inkerman Sugar Mill, on the southern side of the Burdekin River Bridge, the Burdekin Diorama offers a peaceful place to pause and explore the region's rich agricultural history. Easily accessible from the Bruce Highway, it makes an engaging stop for travellers passing through the area.

The diorama provides insights into the development of the Burdekin's sugarcane industry through detailed maps, historical photographs and interpretive panels, telling the story of how the region grew into one of Australia's most productive cane-growing areas.

Also located at the site is a collection of historic machinery, including the Cannavan Cane Harvester and Populin Automatic Planter. Visitors are invited to read the stories behind these machines and learn more about the hands‑on history of cane farming in the Burdekin.
