Ayr Nature Display

Discover one of North Queensland's most fascinating attractions at the Ayr Nature Display, a local favourite since 1966. Step inside to explore thousands of preserved butterflies, moths, beetles, crustaceans, seashells, rocks, fossils, Aboriginal stone implements and more, meticulously collected and arranged by founder Jess Ey.

Your visit begins with a feature wall crafted from 9,400 North Queensland rock slabs, leading into an impressive gallery filled with natural specimens housed in a custom-built display room. Highlights include the famous Well of Butterflies, Australia’s largest insect specimens, stunning shell and crab collections, and 1,310 rock‑crafted butterfly mosaics on the ceiling.
